Four members of the U.S. Men's National Team have been selected to compete in the World Stars/World Cup meet in Moscow May 29-30. During that same weekend, Joey Hagerty will be competing in a new event, the Champions Trophy, in Frankfurt, Germany. Raj Bhavsar, among the four chosen to compete in the Moscow event, will be competing for the first time since the '08 Beijing Olympics.

Gymnastics Coaching alerted us to the announcement that Illinois A.D., Ron Guenther, has promoted Women's Gymnastics Head Coach Bob Starkell to Director of Gymnastics. He will remain the women's head coach, and Justin Spring has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, assuming all head coaching duties. With the pressure of the team competition out of the way, Saturday night's event finals enabled the gymnasts to let it rip. They were competing on their best events and the prizes were for national championship and/or All-American status. The evening's spotlight shone on Oklahoma's Steven Legendre and Ilinois' Paul Ruggeri as they each brought home two national titles in impressive and exciting fashion.

Stanford handily put away the competition to win their fourth NCAA Men's Gymnastics title. The Cardinal closed the deal with the evening's top scores on rings. Tim Gentry and Nick Noone led the way with scores of 15.45, followed by Kyle Oi's 15.35 and Sho Nakamori's 15.05. Michigan and Oklahoma mounted late charges on floor and vault but fell short.

The Super Six for the 2009 NCAA Championships advanced as predicted. The evening competition was exciting, with Oklahoma prevailing over Illinois and Ohio State. The most amazing performance of the night was by Illinois' Daniel Ribeiro, who scored an outstanding 16.00 on pommel horse. That's easily the NCAA's top pommel score of the season. We'll be scouring youtube to find that video!

Region I has been a virtual battle zone for most of the 2009 club season. Many of the region's top Level 10s have been banged up with injuries. Thankfully, most of them were able to compete at the 2009 Region I Championships.

Illinois mounted a furious comeback to tie Michigan for the Big 10 Championship. The Illini were 2.5 points behind going into their final rotation (rings). It took career high or season high performances from Tyler Mizoguchi, Nick Stango and Tyler Williamson to get the job done.

Arizona State won their 11th team title last weekend at the 2009 USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships. The Sun Devils won the collegiate (club) title, while William & Mary nailed down their 13th national title in the Varsity division (funded programs).
ASU's Alex Gaudaur led the way with a first-place finish in the All-Around (81.35), while Riley Barclay (76.05) and Charles Baysinger captured 5th and 6th place, respectively.
