Many men’s gymnastics followers point to the impact of Title IX as providing a critical blow to the sport on the collegiate level. However, an in-depth look at the history of gymnastics in education over the past 60 years shows that while Title IX is used as an excuse to eliminate collegiate teams, there were several elements that offered up men’s gymnastics to the chopping block. It was a perfect storm of [...more]
Brody Malone, Vitaliy Guimaraes and Kevin Penev lead a strong recruiting class of '18 signees for NCAA Men's Gymnastics. All three gymnasts are current Junior National Team members. Stanford landed this year's top recruiting prize by signing Malone, the 2018 U.S. Junior AA champion (age 17-18). The Cardinal have five signees, including Ian Gunther, who placed 10th AA (17-18) at P&Gs. Illinois signed six gymnasts, including top signee [...more]
The other night, a male gymnast was featured in a prime-time television broadcast for the first time since the 2016 Olympics. Joshua Karnes (Lakettes-Erie, PA) appeared on NBC's Little Big Shots, a series that showcases the unique talents of kids from all over the world. Karnes performed some skills on SR, PB and PH, drawing big cheers from the live audience. No stranger to gymnastics fans, Karnes won back-to-back [...more]

December is normally a cheerful month, filled with happiness and eagerness to take part in the joyous act of giving. Though stressful, the countdown to Christmas often culminates in a week-long respite from work. Sometimes, though, bad things happen. Much like a thoughtless employer laying off a productive worker right before the holidays, or a government agency delivering bad news with a feckless Friday afternoon news dump, Temple University announced on Friday the [...more]
Some big names topped the list of early signees in college MAG. It appears that Michigan will easily have the top-ranked recruiting class, as they signed Swiss Turners' super combo Marvin Kimble and Dmitri Belanovski and Azarian's Marty Strech. Swiss Turners had four gymnasts sign LOIs, which undoubtedly is the most of any club. Oklahoma signed only one gymnast, but it was a big one. As expected, the Sooners landed [...more]

I can't recall in the past seeing many gymnasts, if any at all, announcing their college commitments before the early signing period. So far, as of October 30, five gymnasts have publically announced via Twitter and/or Facebook. There may be others, so please don't hesitate to correct me on this. This is a very cool development for college MAG. Usually, the process is battened down as tight as a drum. Thanks to social media, many of our top high school seniors are talking about their college recruiting trips. The naysayers may think otherwise, but this has a [...more]
