A lot of stories have been going around about many of the men's NCAA gymnastics teams scoring high in the classroom. In particular, the Stanford men's team not only won the NCAA team championship, but they also had the highest cumulative team GPA of all NCAA men's gymnastics teams. That is huge! According to Sho Nakamori's blog, Stanford also had nine guys [...more]
Exclusive Interview with Woodward West Gymnastics Director Andy Timm
Woodward West is a thriving camp for gymnastics, tumbling & trampoline, cheer, skateboarding, inline skating and BMX biking. The camp formally refers to itself as an action sports camp, though after observing the outrageous stunts the gymnasts, skaters and bikers perform, extreme sports is a more apt description for us. StickItMedia recently visited Woodward West, and we found it to be [...more]
Sho Nakamori is a hard-working, cerebral member of the men's gymnastics community. Not only is he an eight time All-American and member of the U.S. Senior National Team, he is also a CGA National Academic All-American. Nakamori just completed his undergraduate career by earning degrees in International Relations and Japanese Studies. His recent tweet on Twitter said it all - "snakamori done with school. now, focus=gymnastics."
Now that his studying days are over, for the time being at least, Nakamori is focused like a laser beam to earn [...more]
Legendary Nebraska Head Gymnastics Coach Francis Allen announced his retirement effective July 1. Allen has had an amazing career which spans forty years, in which his teams won eight national championships. Hired at the age of 26, he is still a very young man. We don't know who this person is, but he (she) brings up some good points. The blog Brusqueness commented on American male figure skater Evan Lysacek's recent accomplishment in winning the World Championship, the first for the U.S. in 13 years. The blogger continued, "Don't expect him to appear on a box of Wheaties anytime soon." Good point. He (she) goes on to say that "men's figure skating (like men's gymnastics) lacks a broad appeal to the general public."
The blogger goes on to point out the many examples of [...more]
We would need a slapping if we didn't link to a great post by retired Michigan gymnast, Ward Black. It's all about the relative demise of U.S. excellence on pommel horse. Ward nailed it. He was very harsh on our guys, but he said what needed saying. He was not without some praise, though, especially that reserved for [...more]
StickItMedia Exclusive Interview
As a reward for their inspired bronze-medal finish at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, members of the U.S. Men's Olympic Gymnastics Team were quickly signed on to perform in the Gymnastics Superstars Tour, which ended this past November. Prior to the Games, Paul and Morgan Hamm had already signed on for the tour. It was a lot of fun for the guys, since they were paid to do their favorite activity while not having to worry about judges. Even better, no uniforms, as they often performed in jeans.
Joining them on the tour was a new all-girls band. These young ladies spent two months together with the Olympic team on the whirlwind nation-wide tour. We're talking about KSM.
If you haven't heard KSM yet, you should. This is not your little sister's [...more]
